A yoga retreat is exactly what the term implies. It is a retreat from the normal day to day of life with the assistance of yoga in various forms. Since going on my first retreat lead by my yoga teacher years ago I have enjoyed other opportunities to really step back and reflect. In November I had another such opportunity to step back and explore, and this time I took a group of my students/friends with me to enjoy the experience.
The retreat was run by lovely set of teachers from Studio SE6, namely Sophie, Krista and Andi set in the beautiful Howfield Manor Hotel near Canterbury. The theme of the weekend was connected with the season of Autumn with the sense of letting go. From Friday to Sunday we had a mix of gentle or dynamic yoga sessions and yoga nidra to help embrace the theme. We also enjoyed a silent walking meditation before breakfast along the stream in the cold bright morning of Saturday, a trip into Canterbury, a “burning” ceremony over a fire pit where we physically burnt pieces of paper containing our fears before toasting marshmallows and celebrating bonfire night with sparklers.
It was a wonderful experience to share with my friends and to make new ones on the way. An opportunity to try new things, to sing, dance, enjoy good food and be inspired.
A huge thank you to the ladies who ran the weekend, the hotel for hosting us and for all those there for making it a wonderful weekend.
I was so inspired that I am checking out venues and possible dates for running a retreat in 2017/2018 !
